LOWER and upper SECONDARY PROGRAM

As students progress to higher levels, teachers, scholars, and course designers must consider upgrading the program to the level which basically suits the student’s needs, such as vocabulary knowledge, grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Apart from these, students must also be taught subskills as well in language school, especially in the 21st century where life is full of considerable challenges.  Since the world becomes more and more diverse and futuristic in terms of technology advancement, social development, urbanization, cultural evolution, political change, and lifestyle improvement, certain issues such as global warming, water pollution, anxiety, virulent ailment, job shortage, and the like emerge in such a sense that could detriment humans from flourishing further. Hence, teaching students how to cope with these issues is what the 21st century curriculum should look like. Moreover, in order to overcome challenges and be successful both in life and at school, students do not come to language school to just learn the language per se yet to learn more skills that go beyond pure academic, such as how to deal with stress, how to communicate effectively and how to respond to different cultures. The Lower Secondary Program, therefore, consolidates these skills in the curriculum that fulfil student’s needs.

The lower secondary program curriculum comprises four levels ranging from level 7 to level 10. Each level contains 3 terms, and each term lasts for 3 months, which make up of 11 weeks. It offers both full time and part time classes. Full time class starts from 7:30 am -10:30 am for morning shift and 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm for afternoon shift. Two different schedules are offered for part time classes: (1) 5:30pm -7:00pm, and (2) 5:30pm – 6:30 pm. The program is held from Monday to Friday. The curriculum also offers extracurricular activities and foreigner sessions.

UPPER SECONDARY PROGRAM

Once students reach upper secondary level, it is time for them to make their own decision on their academic journey. The way students learn, perform, and do their work may change significantly. Some students choose to be independent in their learning whereas others still need more support from their teachers. On top of that, at this stage, it is time for students to prepare themselves for the university. Therefore, designing a course that pays the way for students to reach the desired destination, providing additional support for their learning, suiting their needs, and building their confidence are of immense necessity.

The curriculum of Upper Secondary Level aims to provide students with skills that go beyond their pure academic which are said to help students shape their critical thinking, prepare for university, deal with stress, and cope with every day situation. In traditional learning, students sit on their chair and listen to their teachers. Teachers make most of the decision for students. In the present time, especially after the spark of COVID-19 pandemic, the way students learn change drastically. Hence, the Upper Secondary Program is designed by following, adapting, and responding to the current status quo.
